WEBINAR:
COVID-19: Minimizing the Impact of Social Distancing for the Older Adult

When: Saturday, April 4, 2020

11:00 a.m. ET | 10:00 a.m. CT | 9:00 a.m. MT | 8:00 a.m. PT (2 Hour Duration)

About the Webinar:
This webinar will be looking at minimizing the impact of social distancing and is aimed primarily at our older adults, their caregivers and therapists looking for ideas to help the older adult in these challenging times. Representatives from home health, acute care, geriatrics and the cognitive and mental health SIG will be speaking on ways individuals, their families, caregivers and therapists can help minimize the impact of the isolation being experienced by many of our older adults.

We’ll Discuss:

  • Tips for maintaining routines and introducing new ones for individuals with cognitive challenges
  • Ideas for indoor physical activity with individuals with cognitive challenges
  • Techniques for patient sessions: Mindful movement, structure/communication adjustments, handling of disruptive behaviors
  • Breathing activities and pulmonary rehab strategies for individuals with “traditional” pulmonary issues, such as COPD, asthma and emphysema (not COVID-19)
  • Using routines to decrease anxiety, ways we can introduce acute care techniques into the home now that the patient is being required to stay at home
  • Logistics of engaging individuals in the home who should be but are not receiving home visits
  • Triaging older adults and preparing for the upcoming surge of home health patients.
  • Anxiety, depression, and borderline personality disorder in the acute care and socially isolated patient
